James Allen opened Allen Insurance Agency in 1952 conducting business out of the family home in Avon Lake. In 1963, Bob Allen, fresh out of the Navy, joined forces with his dad and in 1968 he received his license. During the next few years Bob did more than just sell insurance. He was also a firefighter with the Avon Lake Fire Department, he drove a school bus for the Avon Lake school district and he was the mayor of Avon Lake from 1982-1984.

Bob Allen Insurance Agency has been at the current location since 1988 and it was here that Mary Ellen Allen was asked to “help” out one month before her marriage to Bob. She has been there ever since. Now that Bob is the Safety Director for the city of Avon, Mary Ellen has assumed the main leadership role in the agency and is happy to serve your every need.
